How Theming Works
In Your first dungeon you swapped the theme and only the art changed. Here’s
why. The builder never places meshes. It drops invisible markers (Wall, Ground, Door…) wherever art is
needed, and the theme says what to place on each marker.
Two short videos show how a theme works and the two ways to edit one.
The theme graph
Section titled “The theme graph”A theme is a graph. Each marker is a node, and the meshes, Blueprints and lights you hang under it are placed on every marker of that name. This video walks through the graph using the Foundry theme’s assets.
Edit the theme in the level
Section titled “Edit the theme in the level”You can also edit a theme right in the level viewport. Switch the level editor to Dungeon Theme mode and drag a mesh onto a wall in the built dungeon. It’s added to that marker and shows up on every matching spot straight away.
What you just saw
Section titled “What you just saw”The layout never changes. A theme is a set of rules that dress it, and Dungeon Architect reapplies them everywhere at once. That’s why one theme works on every layout, and one layout works with every theme.
- Design your first theme: build a theme from scratch, step by step.
- Interactive theme editor mode: every tool in the viewport mode.
- Pattern Matcher: place art based on what’s around a spot, e.g. a corner or the top of a stair. The Foundry theme is built with it.
